Advice for newer poker players

Hello new poker players.

I have heard time and again, new poker players to this game complain about it being biased against new players in the VIP and HR areas.
That ranked players have some sort of advantage.

I have been playing all three levels of poker for the past 7 months and i see what the issue is. The issue is when you play everyday against the same people and beings.
You get used to their game play, who is a bluffer and who only raises the pot when they have something worthy of going in on.
Sometimes you get the lucky hot seat, and other times you are stuck with bad hands and a bad flop.
That's just how it goes. Also I have seen many new players make rookie mistakes, and usually when i see a new poker player, i got a good idea he/she is gonna lose pretty quickly.

I see lots of the older and more famous poker players have left the game. I could make a list of them all.

Lots of new players and some are very good.

There are 7 different poker styles (my opinion). Put them together on one table it gets very interesting. Whoever invented this game must have been a genius.

Poker : "It's like soap opera, with a deck of cards" . Pure drama.

I really only play poker for fun, I consider a win coming in 1,2 or 3 place.
Someone here tried to tell me its more skill then luck, but i have to disagree.
Skill can get you so far in poker, luck of the draw or the lucky seat position is the most helpful.
The advice i give is, count how many ways you can win with the 2 cards you get, and play your own style.

Question for DL...
How does the game pick who will get the 1st big blind?
I asked the other poker players and they said, its due to who has the highest card.
But shortly after that i got 2 low cards while being the big blind.
is it random or seating position?
Thankz

It doesn't pick the big blind, it picks the dealer. The people after the the dealer inherit the blind bet positions.

I went up against a player earlier. I had KK in hand 10 10 Ace was out she called me all in 5k chips. I called she had 4,2 and then moaned because I called when she said she was trying to steal the pot.

Yes some sore losers play poker. You won that's the main thing.
Many different ways to play poker, but "sore loser" isn't one of them.
Maybe try the VIP room, but better players there.

I don't think going all in with a 4 and 2 was such a great idea lol...

I usually have chat off altogether,  which if you click in the left thumbstick, (PS4, may be the same for XBOX) you can hide or minimise the chatbox.

Have to agree wholeheartedly with JRSC01 on this one.
2 and 4 is bad combo, even if you get a full straight, someone else can beat that with a flush.
Sometimes I have been given a 3 and 6 in the big blind and still won.
Worst card combos are anything with a 7 and/or Q in it

Can you please reconsider the payouts for high roller poker. I think 3rd place should get 25k profit. 2nd place 50k profit and 1st place gets 275k instead of 325k. It’s not easy to get 3rd place in high roller poker because there are more skilled players so 3rd becomes more valuable.

Luck is a major role but so is skill. If I have king of clubs and diamonds and you have 2 of hearts and 8 of spades and the dealer lays down four random cards all of hearts, that is luck. The skill is knowing hey I might not beat a flush even if the 5th card is a king. Sometimes even the losing hand takes skill, to not lose as many chips in a hand lol.

For sure luck is 75% of the game, you either get good cards or don't.
10% is knowing your opponents, their limits and styles. What they might do, do they fold a lot?
15% is skill, how to deal with an opponent that uses a different style then you, and what i call "luck level". Some opponents have zero luck and know it, and can bluff their way into top position.

I stopped being competitive this season and just want to have fun. Threw off my hybrid style and went back to my original style. What I found is I am doing far better !

Tip: Always wear a hat. I notice hat wearers do better

My only advice is never play high rollers poker. At least not on Xbox. There are a group of players that use the Xbox app on their phone to tell each other what their cards are in real time. On average three or four of them will be working in tandem to eliminate the other three players at the table and then they will take turns over who comes in first second and third.

Source: I was invited to join them and said no. Tried to call attention to it but there really is nothing the admins can do. It's not cheating per se but keep in mind most of the time in high rollers you have to get extremely lucky because you're playing against not only everyone at the table but there is always a group working in tandem.

Cheating is stupid,  it surprises me every time i hear this. That ppl would ruin the beautiful game of poker.

A few times I played a game on purpose with people whom others said were cheaters.
I beat them. The reason is even cheaters get bad cards. Plus I have mad skills and do things others cannot.

"poker is a soap opera, played with a deck of cards"

You also have those who uses more than 1 account seated on the same table in order to get first place on the poker leaderboards and teaming up
I am aware name dropping is against the forum rules but I know of a couple of ppl who did this, one of them was caught and the other admitted to using this method smh

Some of them even have designated simps who spend $100,000 chips on a game and purposely dump it to them. Smh

Maybe you 2 are right about all these cheaters.
But what if those cheating get nothing but bad cards all game?
They are gonna lose regardless if they have a helping hand by someone else who also has bad cards.
Your skills can only help you to a point, you require good card and lucky sets to win.

Not if you have someone (an alt) or multiple people who are chip dumping and purposely folding their hand to the potential loser who is being boosted (cheating) keeping them alive and giving them the upper hand
This happens a lot in the playstation universe, it’s terrible. They will use playstation party chats to read off each other’s hand
