Latest update... Changed how to do things

Since the latest update I have not been able to figure out how to add a friend or type in the friends name or even how to add one or how to accept one... I know I am slow and maybe not the best button pusher but i cannot find the right ones when the social tab is open.  Nothing seems to work except the scroll.  That doesn't get it when trying to contact a friend so we can invite to room or to do the dance in the club,  The dancing with a friend in the club does not have much to do with the usual reason to visit a casino, but we gotta do it to earn points....  But in my case I cannot seem to figure out how.

You use the left stick or the digital direction pad to scroll within the social sub menus. You select from friends that are online to interact with them. You can also look at their current VIP stats/level and nobility level. Use you left stick or directional pad to scroll and the press X to select the action. You can also look to see which hotel invite currently active in the requests tab.

Sometimes I just add random stranger to friends whenever I'm doing the dance task. There's usually someone looking to complete the task quickly.

Odd thing happened last night, where I got chips/credit before the person showed in my hotel room!

The only way my controller has done anything is i can scroll down with the right stick.  I cannot select any "friend" whether online or not.  No other control works to highlight anything except the triangle and that gets me to add a friend (I have to be at the bottom of the list) but I have to hit X before a dialogue box shows with an error message that I must select a friend first.  I can then scroll with my left stick and select a friend I can then send PM but oh what a non-intuitive messed up way to get any use at all out of the "Social" Tab.

By the way, I have two controllers and both are performing identically.  I have a feeling I have made a few of my friends frustrated because I cannot always respond very well...  I'll admit I'm an old fart, but I can usually figure stuff out.  But this game has some really odd ways of doing things.  I know I have to learn the system but you would think it would be easier to do that.

Thanks, you were helpful but my controller does not work like yours.

Here is the way I've had to do it.  Maybe it will help you.  On the first tab, if you move the "highlight" to the tab itself, it will turn blue (default color).  Then you hit the R1 button to go to the Friends list, you should be able to move that Highlight to the friends tab and then you can move it down the list.

I've not had much luck unless I do it that way.

Thanks, I'll try that a little later on today and let you know results.  There appears some variables in the way individual systems (stations?) work.

I messed around with the tabs and the various buttons, knobs, toggles and pads ( you all know the standard controller) and here is what I discovered.
1. I can access the four tabs (Profile, Social, Map, Settings) with either pressing the pad or the options button.  (However, there is no scrolling or highlighting function done with the pad)
2. I can highlight any of the tabs with: R1 (left to right) and R2 (right to left)
3. I can toggle down in three of the four tabs with left stick and pick any of the items I highlight under that tab with the X.
4. The Social tab when highlighted this way does nothing except let me scroll with the right stick to the bottom and I can follow the path I mentioned before.
5. I discovered that if I am under the Profile tab I can toggle up with the left stick and it turns the profile black with a blue background.  (before it was a blue profile with a black background)
6. I can then use the left stick to toggle right and highlight Social tab
7. I have to hit the X button next.
8. Now I can highlight friends and get to the other sub-menus that I never knew existed.
9. After trying other paths to attempt getting to #8 above, this so far is the only way I have found that works.

Why, of the four main tabs does the social not function the same as the other three... My guess is there has to be a link from your social to your profile or you would never be able to find and access "your" friends...  So that made them try to figure how to program a sub set of names linked to your (my) name.  But boy did it ever trip me up.

My gosh what a huge change to make people go through this kind of a learning curve for the "Update" where bugs are fixed etc. etc.  Since I do like the premise of of this Casino program and have played it a while now, I feel the need to vent just a little bit.

It is OK to have friends and social groups.  However, to make it mandatory to invite friends to your Hotel room and or make them dance in the club in order to earn Chips or qualify for VIP status seems a bit over the top for a game primarily centered on gambling.  Yes I know some people are competitive and like to measure themselves against others and other people like challenges by so continue the daily tasks, but the "social" side does not thrill me as much as it apparently does the rest of the clientele ... And as sekihan said above about having to add random friends for some that want to get it done quickly.  I have to add them almost every time and I don't know them at all.  We end up using each other as a means to collect the chips and maybe the VIP status without regard to any kind of  continuing relationship (not that relationships can't happen).  That's my rant for the day.

Thanks for your responses.  And your different perspectives got me to try some things I never took the time for until today.

I want to add it here just because you mentioned it that your in game friends list is different than your systems friends list.

Well, yes.  Usually in a software company, after the feature has been submitted (placed in the code and a build has been created), it should go through four different test phases:

1) Automated testing (command line, API calls, ect)
2) Functional testing (makes sure the feature works when all the right buttons are pushed)
3) Negative testing (see what happens when none of the right buttons are pushed or when they are pushed in different orders)
4) Usability testing (someone looks at the "flow" of the feature and makes sure it's in line with the other features or in line with the "vision" of the feature)

Now, knowing what I know about programmers, if they are given 2 weeks to finish a feature, they usually don't get done until the last minute.  This then causes the testing to be rushed or some tests to not be completed.

What you are seeing is the results of "slippage" (for lack of a better term).  All the individual systems should work the same but I'll let you in on another little thing that happens in the software industry.  1) The software is never like they want it and 2) Going back to fix ALL the problems and wants is never done!

True.  They are different and separate lists.

You make some good points here.

The upshot of all this amounts to working with what is; or becoming discouraged/disgusted and quit.

If you are trying to PM someone, every time you want to private message someone different type /p (their screenname) hit enter, then type your message

How do i switch between table, lobby, individual, etc?

You have to hold the button until the controller vibrates.  I can't remember what button it was at the moment.

Open up your chat. Hold down L2 and then use the arrow buttons to change from Lobby to table Chat to Personal Messages, etc...
